The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team hosted their annual Dig Pink Cancer Fundraiser event with Farragut at the Wildcat Arena Tuesday night. It was a night to remember as the Lady ‘Cats fall to Farragut in an intense five-set match. “Man, what a match that was,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach Dave Kolodney. “We always have tough matches against Farragut, but I don’t think I’ve ever been involved in a match quite like that.” Oak Ridge saw several match and individual records fall over the course of the night, including the obliteration of Total Team Attacks (203) and Total Team Digs (104) records indicating the intensity of this back-and-forth volleyball match. “There were two teams who wanted it and were going to do whatever it took to keep playing,” Kolodney continued. “We had a ton of opportunities but weren’t able to put the ball away like we’ve been able to do all season.” The 203 Attacks delivered only a paltry .118 hitting efficiency for the night – half of the Lady Wildcat’s season average. “Still we had a good night passing and digging which enabled us to stay in those long rallies,” Kolodney finished. “[We] need to keep building on these things and continue to get better as we move into October.”
The Lady Wildcats host Karns for Senior Night on Wednesday to close out the regular season. Oak Ridge will receive a first round bye in the District Tournament and will play Semifinal and Finals next Thursday (10/8). The Lady Wildcats fall to 16-3 on the season (11-0 District 4-AAA).
