The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team lost their first road game of the season in a five-set thriller against Anderson County on Thursday night. “This was a fun match to be a part of from start to finish,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach David Kolodney. “It’s been awhile since we’ve seen AC but we’ve always had good, tough matches with them and tonight was no different.” It was only the Wildcat’s second five-set match in the past four seasons and Kolodney was pleased despite the 2-3 loss. “I thought both teams played really good volleyball – it had a late September feel to it – not the second game of the season,” continued Kolodney. “We didn’t make too many unforced errors and several times throughout the night we were down and were able to fight back into the game – even in the 5th.” The Lady Cat’s started slow in the deciding fifth set letting the 2019 Class AA State Runner-up open with a 7-0 run. Oak Ridge finished strong playing their way back into it, but just ran out of play in the shortened 15-point final Set. “The difference tonight was our net game. Anderson County is just too good to give free hits and not expect that they’ll take advantage,” Kolodney finished. “So we’ve got work to do – but it’s only game two.” Oak Ridge was paced by Senior Outside Hitter Lynley Baldwin with her 4 Aces and 13 Kills, while chipping in 11 Digs and taking the bulk of the serve receptions. Senior Co-Captain Paige Halcrow had a team high 24 Digs and 20 Assists and eclipsed the 1500 career Assist mark in the match.
Oak Ridge volleyball returns to action Monday night hosting another 2019 State Runner-up in Div II Class A Concord Christian. The Lady ‘Cats will have a quick turnaround facing District opponents West and Powell on Tuesday and Thursday respectively. The Lady Wildcats fall to 1-1 on the season (1-0 District).
