Lady Wildcat Volleyball pounds the Lady 'Dogs

The #16 Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team started the second half of District play with a win against Bearden on Wednesday night at the Wildcat Arena. The Lady ‘Dogs didn’t put up much of a fight as the ‘Cats swept in 3 sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-12). “This was a good way to start our second go through the District,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach Dave Kolodney. “Although our serve-receive is still not where it needs to be, the level of play with everything else is very good.” Again, the Lady Wildcats struggled to receive the opponent’s serves with a 24.3% error and 1.84 pass rating. Although better than the previous night against Karns (31.3%, 1.72), Oak Ridge is still performing far from the season average of 17.2% error. However, the Lady Wildcats inflicted far more damage upon the Lady Bulldog’s Serve-Receive delivering another 20+ Ace night. “It, of course, doesn’t hurt to get nearly 1/3rd of your points on aces,” Kolodney continued. “We’ve always been a strong serving team and that showed today with 5 of our 6 servers scoring at least 3 Aces.” Junior Ainsley Patrick led the way with 6 Aces. “She led the team in Aces and was nearly perfect on her attacks with 6 kills to only 1 error across 15 hits,” Kolodney said about his Co-Captain Outside Hitter who he named Player of the Match. “Pepper a few digs and assists in and it was a really good night for her which led to a really good night for the team.” Sophomore Ipek Ozcan led the ‘Cats in Kills (7), and Sophomore Piper Suddeth led the team in Assists (16) and Digs (5). “We did a great job of staying home for defense and reacting instead of trying to anticipate – as well as covering on plays at the net,” finished Kolodney. “Those are the little things that will make a difference in the long run.”

Oak Ridge improves to 13-2 on the season and remains undefeated in District 4-AAA play (7-0). The Lady Wildcats will put their perfect District record on the line twice next week, hosting West on Tuesday and traveling to Campbell County on Wednesday.
