The #17 Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team traveled to Campbell County on Wednesday night to face the Lady Cougars for the second time this season. The Lady Wildcats dispensed with the Lady Cougars, sweeping them in three sets (25-11, 25-15, 25-8). “This was a good district win in what could have easily been a let down match,” said Wildcat Head Coach Dave Kolodney. “Coming off a long and mentally tough four-setter the night before, I was glad to see everyone come to play both mentally and physically.” The Lady ‘Cats had a quick turnaround from the previous nights competitive battle with West. “We were able to get the whole team involved in a meaningful way and they didn’t miss a beat regardless of who was playing,” Kolodney continued. “We were also able to continue to move in a positive direction on our serve-receive for the fifth straight set, so hopefully we have turned that corner.” Oak Ridge received serves at a 90% success rate. Equally, the Lady Cougars struggled to handle the Lady Wildcat attack as Oak Ridge pounded their third highest Kills/Set of the Season. Junior Setter/Right Side Paige Halcrow led the team with 9 Kills. “Paige is Player of the Match tonight,” said Kolodney of his Co-Captain. “Great serving set the tone early in each set and she finished the night with an Ace percentage of nearly 50%.” Halcrow provided the Lady ‘Cats with 9 Aces. Junior Libero Marybeth Luby chipped in with 12 Digs. “Overall it was another good district win,” finished Kolodney.
Oak Ridge improves to 15-2 on the season and remains undefeated in District 4-AAA play (9-0). One more District win ensures the Lady ‘Cats at least a share of the regular season District title. Oak Ridge will be playing at Stone Memorial High School’s Queen of the Mountain Tournament on Saturday and next week will face Region II foes Heritage (Monday) and Maryville (Thursday). The Lady Wildcats will also have a District match with Halls (Tuesday).
