Lady Wildcat Volleyball Wins at West 3-1

Buzz Patrick

The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team traveled to Knoxville to face West in a District Match Thursday night. The Lady ‘Cats started out strong in Set 1 taking a commanding 21-14 lead only to allow the Lady Rebels to finish on an 11-2 run to take the first Set. However, Oak Ridge squashed West’s momentum quickly and won the next three Sets to earn the win 3-1. “That’s another good district win for us,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach Dave Kolodney. “While it wasn’t as clean as the other night, it was important to get this win to keep ourselves at the top of the district standings.” The Lady Wildcats are firmly atop the District 4-AAA standings with an unblemished record with four District matches remaining. “West has definitely improved since we saw them at our place,” continued Kolodney. “They gave us a good run for our money tonight – but we converted some great cover and hustle plays that made the difference.” The Lady Wildcats converted 49 Kills, grabbed 81 Digs, and served an outstanding 96.9% - all three metrics earning their respective place in the Top 10 all-time Match Record Book. “We never mentally checked out throughout the match,” Kolodney stated. “To come out and commandingly win the 2nd after allowing that to happen at the end of the first – these girls can be unstoppable when they really dig in – It’s going to be a fun ride as we begin to wind down the regular season.”

The Lady Wildcats have two weeks of play remaining in the regular season, including three Matches next week. Monday, Oak Ridge travels to Maryville to face the Lady Rebels. The Lady Wildcats improve to 12-1 on the season (8-0 District 4-AAA).
