Lady Wildcats Ace the Lady Devils

Buzz Patrick

The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team traveled to Halls for a District match Thursday night. The Lady ‘Cats wasted little time and dispatched with the Red Devils in straight sets. “We wrapped up another good week for Wildcat volleyball with a solid win over Halls,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach David Kolodney. “Our serves continued to be fairly strong, setting the pace for our play.” Oak Ridge missed more serves than their Coach would have preferred (13 Errors), but served at nearly a 30% Ace rate – far exceeding their errors (21 Aces). “We worked hard on our passing in practice yesterday and it paid dividends,” Kolodney continued. “It had to be one of our best passing nights of the Season.” The Lady ‘Cats pass rating exceeded 2.5 for the first time since the Season Opener, led by Lynley Baldwin who passed a perfect 6 for 6. The Senior outside hitter also contributed 8 Kills, 3 Digs, and 3 Aces in the win, garnering her Player of the Match honors from her Coach. “Overall we were in control from start to finish, which is when we play our best volleyball,” finished Kolodney. “It will be good to have a long weekend to rest up for next week’s back to back to back lineup.”

Oak Ridge hits the road again twice next week to face Karns (Tuesday) and Campbell County (Thursday), and plays Heritage at Home on Wednesday. The Lady Wildcats are 7-1 on the season (5-0 District 4-AAA).
