The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team traveled to Hardin Valley Academy Monday night for a Regional match-up. The Lady ‘Cats walked away with a four-set victory over the Lady Hawks. “Man, what a good gut-check win for us tonight,” said Oak Ridge Coach Dave Kolodney. “Good teams like Hardin Valley make you win the points – they are not going to just give up – and most of the time we were able to rise to the challenge.” Some early errors in Sets 2, 3, and 4 had the Lady ‘Cats fighting from behind, often times as many as five points - yet Oak Ridge was able to close that gap. “We lost our way in the third,” continued Kolodney. “and for a little bit in the fourth, it looked like we were on the same path, but found another gear to turn to.” The Lady Wildcats fought hard at the net offensively and defensively. Senior Brenna Allred snagged a season-high seven Blocks and Senior Captain Paige Halcrow notched her first triple-double of the season. Oak Ridge prevailed on the passing and serving of Senior Marybeth Luby who was named Player of the Match by her Coach. “Marybeth gave us a chance to make the plays we needed to make,” Kolodney said of his Libero in the hard fought four-set match. “During the fourth it was great to hear teammates pick each other up and push for more,” Kolodney finished. “That’s the stuff that’s going to get us far into October.”
Oak Ridge returns to action at Wildcat Arena Tuesday night for a District match with Bearden and travel to Halls on Thursday for another District match. The Lady Wildcats are 5-1 on the season (3-0 District 4-AAA).
