Lady Wildcats take another victory from Concord Christian

The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team traveled to Concord Christian Monday to play a recently scheduled match filling the open date caused by the Halls COVID forfeit. The Lady Wildcats prevailed again against the 2019 Div II-A State Runner-up 2-1. “Overall we played a really good match,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach Dave Kolodney. “We outplayed them in transition, but we really hurt ourselves with too many errors early.” Oak Ridge struggled out of the chute with Passing Errors (8) and Serving Errors (5) in the first set, but were able to assemble a 24-22 lead with several opportunities to put the match away - only to give it away with 4 consecutive costly errors to lose 24-26. “To stay in that match despite our errors was a testament to how well we played when we actually gave ourselves a chance,” continued Kolodney. “That solid play carried over into the other two sets as well.” The Lady ‘Cats took early 6-point leads in both remaining sets and gave the Lady Lions little ground to mount a comeback. “We had some great play at the net tonight with some big blocks and touches that gave our defenders a real opportunity to dig the ball,” stated Kolodney. “We did a good job following the play and covering for each other. Altogether, it was a good night,” Kolodney finished. “Especially when you consider that both teams have already seen each other this year so there wouldn’t be many surprises.”

The Lady Wildcats host Farragut Tuesday night for Dig Pink Night and then Karns for Senior Night on Wednesday to close out the regular season. The Lady Wildcats improve to 16-2 on the season (11-0 District 4-AAA).
