Oak Ridge Volleyball Aces Karns

The #16 Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team completed the first half of their District schedule Tuesday night with a commanding victory over Karns. “This wasn’t the cleanest match we’ve played all year but it was good enough to get the job done,” said Oak Ridge Head Coach Dave Kolodney. “ I think we had a little bit of a let down after last night’s big win and it showed in our serve-receive.” Usually a stable part of the Lady Wildcat’s game, Oak Ridge was Aced 7 times throughout the night with over 31% passing errors. “We were sluggish at the start of points but did a good job recovering to finish them out,” Kolodney continued. “That was in a big way due to the outstanding play of our setters who were able to make a lot of plays possible despite the poor passes they were given.” The Lady ‘Cats were paced by Junior Setter Paige Halcrow who not only delivered 12 Assists, the Junior Co-Captain also provided 12 Aces and 8 Digs. “Paige had another great night for us,” Said Kolodney who named her Player of the Match. Oak Ridge wasn’t the only team in the match struggling to pass serves as the Wildcat’s set a new single match record for a team total, acing Karns an average of 8.3 times a set; exceeding 2018’s 8.0 Aces/set vs. Powell. Five different servers notched Aces in tonight’s match. “Despite our struggles receiving serves, a win is a win, and I’m glad to finish the first half of our season with one. They all will be coming for us in the second half of district play. I’m confident in our ability to rise to the challenge,” Kolodney finished.

The Lady Wildcats have dropped only one set in District play so far this year and will start the second half Wednesday night when Bearden comes to the Wildcat Arena. Oak Ridge moves to 12-2 on the season and remains undefeated in District 4-AAA play (6-0).
