Oak Ridge Volleyball tops Hardin Valley

The #16 Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team hosted Region opponent Hardin Valley Academy at Wildcat Arena on Monday night. The Lady Wildcats swept the Lady Hawks in 3 straight sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-20). “This was the most complete match I’ve them play so far this year,” said Head Coach David Kolodney. “With the exception of a 6-point slide in the 2nd set, I thought they were mentally focused from start to finish.” Oak Ridge commanded the lead early in each set and never relented, even though Hardin Valley was able to keep the sets within striking distance. “Hardin Valley is a very good team and to come away with the win is nothing to look past,” Kolodney continued. “We know that in order to get past the Regional round we’ll have to win against teams like this; so anytime we can, it’s good for our confidence and good preparation for the post season.” Confidence was high with the ‘Cats as there were several solid individual performances. The Lady Wildcats were led by Sophomore Setter/Right Side Piper Suddeth who served a stretch to open Oak Ridge’s extensive lead in the first set. “More than 25% of her serves were Aces, and she gave us 13 Assists from the back row,” Kolodney said about the Sophomore. “She got the job done up front too with a couple of kills and more than a couple of touches that kept plays alive.” Suddeth was named Player of the Match by her Coach. The Lady ‘Cats also delivered a season high 6 total blocks with Sophomore Ipek Ozcan participated in 4. Junior Lynley Baldwin led the team with 13 Kills and Marybeth Luby had 13 Digs. “Great win, but we’ve got to stay focused because the next two days bring important District matches at home,” Kolodney finished.

The Lady Wildcats host District opponents Karns on Tuesday night and Bearden on Wednesday night. Oak Ridge moves to 11-2 on the season and remains undefeated in District 4-AAA play (5-0).
