The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcats have gotten off to an excellent start of the season with solid wins against two excellent teams. The ‘Cats won in four sets at Concord Christian on Monday with solid court presence both offensively and defensively. Oak Ridge Head Coach Dave Kolodney said of the Concord match-up, “What a great way to start the season. I always love starting with a tough matchup to jump start the season and this match did exactly that. We came out strong and played well from start to finish. Good teams don’t just go away and Concord played us well but we were able to adjust nicely. I’m proud of the way we fought to stay in the play, come back from being down, and didn’t let dropping a set impact us at all. Top to bottom it was a good way to start. We have to carry that momentum into tomorrow’s home and district opener versus West.” Player of the Match: Piper Suddeth – strong court presence tonight as well as strong service game.
Knoxville West visited the Oak Ridge High arena on Tuesday where the ‘Cats won in three sets. “This was a great district win to set the tone for our season,” said Coach Dave. “We know that West always brings their best against them and we always look forward to these matchups. Tonight was a really good mental win for our team. There were points throughout all 3 sets where we certainly could have retreated but instead kept pushing and it paid off. We did the things we needed to do to secure the win.” Player of the Match: Alex Shanafield – offensively was very solid all night long with a number of timely kills.
